The Caledonia football coaching staff rolled the dice last Sept. 3 at Plainview and came out winners when they elected to go for a two-point conversion in overtime and Connor McCormick bullied across for the PAT and a 14-13 win.

The Warriors and PEM Bulldogs had fought to a 6-6 tie in a season-opening defensive battle. Caledonia scored on a 10-yard pass from Josh Gran to Seth Kasten in the second period. The extra point kick was no good and the Warriors took a 6-0 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Bulldogs scored on a seven-yard run by Jack Ihrke in the third period. The PEM extra point kick failed and the game was tied.

The two teams battled through a scoreless fourth period, setting up overtime.

PEM had the ball first and scored on the first play in overtime with a 10-yard pass from Cole Olstad to Ihrke. The Cole Springer kick was good and the home-standing ‘Dogs had a 13-6 lead.

Following three unsuccessful attempts at the goal, the Warriors scored on a fourth down and three three yards by McCormick and then elected to go for two points and the win. The Warrior offensive line rose to the occasion, gave McCormick enough room and the junior runningback got into the endzone for the win.

Caledonia rushed for 150 yards and picked up 96 yards through the air. Ivan Augedahl rushed 24 times for 94 yards. McCormick gained 37 yards on 11 carries. Gran rushed five times for 19 yards.

Gran completed 10 of 21 passes for 96 yards and a TD. He was intercepted twice.

Luke Lampert caught seven passes for 84 yards, Kasten had one catch for 10 yards and a TD and Zach Lechner had one catch for five yards.

The Warrior defense held the Bulldogs to 119 yards rushing and 73 yards passing. Lechner led the defensive charge with 15 tackles. McCormick had eight tackles and a deflected pass. Travis Frank had seven tackles; Jim Costigan had five tackles; Gran had three tackles; Mitch Reiser had two tackles and a deflected pass; Lampert, Ethan Lapham and Augedahl each had two tackles; Lyndon Becker, Kasten and Houston Halverson each had one tackle and Adam Drenckhahn had an interception.

Lampert returned two punts for 36 yards and one kick-off for 15 yards. Drenckhahn picked up 17 yards on a punt return.

Austin Goergen had four punts for 120 yards.
